    LOVE

    By: Laurent V. Heidmann

Love is the mainspring of life. Thus, it is necessary that love should forgive. Jesus said that we should forgive '70 times 7' but what He meant is that we should never stop forgiving each other. Love bears all, hopes all. Love does not envy or boast.

'Let brotherly love abound.' So says the Apostle Paul, in Hebrews 13:1. This serves to emphasize the fact that love is patient and kind. True brotherly love exceeds the bounds of “normal” love. I think that 'brotherly love' is the same as 'perfect love'. Perfect, or brotherly love truly casts out fear, for who could imagine being afraid of a brother? Jesus had brotherly love for us, sinners though we are. This is the purpose of love in the plan of salvation: love is the plan of salvation. Love was what led Jesus to the cross, what enabled Him to go through His sufferings.

Love is a fruit of the Spirit, and as such should play a major role in the life of a Christian. We ought to show love, because love saved us; love went to the cross for us. When we truly have the Spirit in us, we can show it's fruits, one of which is love. Lastly, God is love. Therefore, if we are to emulate Him, it is necessary that we show love, become love.
